Course introduction: In this course, each of the three main topics – mental illness, dementia, and learning disability – is discussed separately and then strategies for enabling people to live lives as they choose are introduced. Particular concerns are addressed, such as hate crime, and the stigma of mental illness.

By the end of this learning, learners will:

  • Know what learning disabilities and dementia are as well as the different mental illnesses
  • Understand what their individual experiences might be
  • Recognise the requirement for confidentiality
  • Be knowledgeable about mental capacity and decision-making
