Many of us find it hard to understand how anyone could abuse any child, let alone a child with disabilities.

Yet this refusal to accept the abuse of disabled children often means that practitioners disregard the signs of abuse, therefore allowing the abuse to continue.

By the end of this learning, learners will be able to:

• Be aware of your attitude in the way you behave towards disabled people
• Recognise abusive practices related specifically to a disabled child’s vulnerabilities
• Understand why disabled children are particularly vulnerable to abuse
• Challenging parents or carers, should you suspect abuse, and
• Ensure that the child’s ‘voice’ is heard
