Job Title: Telephone Interpreter (Work from home!)

Location: Work-at-home position, any place in United Kingdom

1. Summary of position: Interpreters will need to be able to interpret between a speaker of English and a speaker of another language

2. Principal Accountabilities:
- Shows excellent interpreting skills and portrays a professional attitude whilst interpreting
- Demonstrates accuracy, has excellent note-taking skills, and an ability to handle difficult situations
- Provides true and complete interpretations of verbal messages
- Remain impartial and unbiased while using correct practice.
- Displays a good understanding of the culture of both languages
- Is able to manage the flow of the call and avoids taking over the call
- Avoids interaction with the limited English speaker w/o client’s permission
- Ensures to provide the highest level of quality by following all interpreting guidelines and procedures as set forth by Language Empire
- Provides excellent customer service to clients, i.e. use of appropriate tone, patience and courtesy

Qualifications
3. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Language Proficiency:
- Demonstrates a strong ability in English and second language
- Has detailed understanding of the cultural dynamics of both languages
- Uses a large number of synonyms, expressions, proverbs and quotations, whenever needed
- Shows accuracy in both languages
- Demonstrates use of proper grammar
- Displays good communication skills, i.e. professional tone of voice, and polite in the form of expression in both languages
Interpretation Skills.
- Interprets with a high degree of accuracy and processes information quickly
- Displays knowledge of interpretation methods and procedures
- Maintains impartial towards client and limited English speaker
- Demonstrates ability to speak clearly without accent interference
- Displays the necessary skills needed to effectively interpret, i.e. expressions
- Is able to manage flow of calls when necessary
- Remembers blocks of information and delivers the same with accuracy
- Maintains confidentiality and upholds ethical standards at all times
- Adapts behaviour in response to varying situations and peoples’ reactions while remaining flexible and professional at all times
- Identifies areas for improvement; willingly accepts constructive feedback, seeks developmental opportunities and works independently
- Demonstrates dependability, honesty, integrity and trustworthiness, and accepts responsibility for own actions
Customer Service skills:
- Maintains a professional attitude throughout the interpreting service
- Shows sensitivity and politeness to limited English speakers of different nationalities, backgrounds and cultures
- Exhibits professionalism towards the client
- Follows the clients’ instructions and tries to exceeds their expectations
Educational Level: (preferred)
- Bachelors and/or Masters degree in Languages, Translation, Interpretation, Philology, Linguistics or related fields
- Ph.D. or Doctoral in Languages, Philology, Linguistic or related fields
- NRPSI (National Register of Public Service Interpreters)
- DPSI (Diploma of Public Service Interpreting)
- DPI (Diploma in Police Interpreting)
- Metropolitan Police Test
- Community Level Interpreter 2 (CLI2)
- Community Level Interpreter 3 (CLI3)
- Certificate of Higher Education in Translation, Interpretation, Languages, Philology or Linguistics
Work Experience
- One year of work experience in interpreting / interpretation / translation (preferred)
- Written translation and/or interpretation
- Localization, bilingual publishing, media organisations, schools and/or similar bilingual settings
- Living and/or studying in a bilingual environment
